Overview

Due to the integration of new equipment and modules on an EV conversion, HMI integration mainly as a secondary display becomes a critical aspect of a proper conversion and integration of any types of vehicles. The legacy meter cluster & driver information system wont be able to provide accurate information to the operator on newly integrated electric modules.

As such a HMI systems will be able provide the controls that allow a user to operate and monitor critical inputs and outputs. When done well, HMI will create easy, reliable accessibility and make the function of technology simple and effective.

EMSB HMI Development Stages

Phase 1 (Graphical User Interface Development)

• Create design mock-ups by understanding the branding and design language as required by clients
• Approval for animation DESIGN APPROACH.
• Based on the approved approach for each, refine and improve the animation, start-up sequence and home screen.
• Estimate the number of primary or secondary elements required for subpage/menu required to be created.
• Proceed building all the screens using FLOW.
• Send designs for APPROVAL.
• Handover final design to client (SKETCH + Zepline)

Phase 2 (Concept Prototype for GPU, CPU, Touch Screen & Communication Module)

• Design & Develop CONCEPT PROTOTYPE with appropriate hardware recommendation by client or by mutual acceptance.
• Concept Prototype will be able to simulate all design aspects and development as per PHASE 1.
• Prototype must be able to simulate data according to set parameters (CAN data).
• Concept Prototype would be used as basis for Phase 3 development after all feedback and requirements from client is acquired.

Phase 3 (Delivery & Commissioning)

• To Deliver & Commission display hardware based on Concept Prototype. (This includes Installation and Testing for the units)
• EMSB will provide 24 months hardware warranty and 6 months post-delivery support.
• All technical specifications and related engineering documents will be provided to client.

EMSB develop Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) across industrial application

Human Machine Interface traditionally known as HMI’s generally refers to dashboards or screen used for information or controls for vehicles, machines or systems. This could be a machine with touch display, push button mobile device or a computer with a keypad

During EMSB Commercial Electric Vehicle Conversion & Integration, we noticed that the traditional Instrument Cluster of the converted vehicle, for example a diesel bus would need a secondary display taking over the role of the legacy instrument cluster.

This is vital for the safe operation of the vehicle as the the developed HMI by EMSB would give real time information like vehicle status, battery voltage, temperature etc and most importantly displaying driver alerts and fault information.

The HMI developed also could be used for diagnostics and for maintenance stage for the converted vehicles.
